New Port Moín Terminal Launches in 2019
A new container terminal has launched in February 2019 in the Puerto Limon / Moín Port complex. Large commercial vessels have begun calling on the Moín Container Terminal. Operated by APM Terminals, the port will include two berths and 40 hectares of artificial island. This is a momentous step for driving competition and growing Costa Rica’s economy. In March 2011, the Costa Rican government signed a $992 million, 33-year contract with Dutch company APM Terminals to design, build, operate, and maintain the new container terminal.
This world-class, sustainable container terminal will modernize the port system and broadens international commerce for exports and imports, allowing access to new routes. Once fully operational, it is expected to be the largest container ship terminal with direct connections and dependable intermodal links to major markets.
